If you’re like me, life has a tendency to get busy. Between work, family obligations, attempting to maintain a social life and so on, finding time to go to the gym sometimes just doesn’t happen (let’s be real). Does that mean working out isn’t desirable or enjoyable? Of course not! Not only do I find it confidence building, but stress relieving as well. It just makes my entire body feel GOOD.
For those days that I don’t have the time (or energy) to make it to the gym, however, I have a few items at home to ensure that I can always maintain a level of fitness that keeps my body healthy and happy. If you want to get fit at home fast, GREAT! With a couple tools and a fridge stocked with nutritious foods, you’ll already be well on your way to getting results.
If you want to get fit at home fast, one of the first things I would encourage you to invest in is a set of dumbbells. I personally use a 10 lb set (that’s 10 lbs for each dumbbell), but you can use whatever size is most beneficial for YOU.
The reason why I’d recommend having a set of dumbbells is because they are just plain simple to use. Set the dumbbells beside the couch and whenever you watch T.V., pump out a few shoulder presses, triceps dips and bicep curls. It only takes a few days to start noticing a difference in muscle tone with this method.
Even though I’m a HUGE advocate of doing bodyweight exercises that require no equipment (ex. push ups, pull ups, crunches, etc), having a pair of dumbbells at home is super convenient. It makes it much harder to come up with excuses to not workout. Why? Because you don’t even have to get off the couch to use them.
My favorite dumbbell set is the CAP Barbell Color Coated Hex Dumbbell from Amazon.
- Price: $$
- Quality: 4.7/5 stars, 849 Amazon reviews
- Shape: Hexagonal design to prevent tipping
Overall, they’re a very high quality set of dumbbells for a decent price.

Another item I would highly recommend you having at home is a set of resistance bands. These are excellent not only for arms, but for your abs, legs and glutes as well! Want to build a firmer, perkier butt at home? Resistance Bands are your best friend! Just find a heavy piece of furniture (a couch, table, bed, recliner or door) to loop the bands around. Now you have the setup for a full leg workout!

My favorite resistance band set is the Black Mountain Brand. It comes with 5 colored bands of varying weight limits, a set of soft grip handles, ankle straps, a door anchor, exercise chart, carrying bag AND a starter guide. You can check it out here on Amazon. Oh! And I also forgot to mention that it comes with a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty.
- Price: $$
- Quality: 4.5/5 stars, 6,522 Amazon reviews
- Pros: Highly versatile, portable and lightweight
I love my exercise ball and have used it for so much more than working out. Whether it’s sitting at the computer desk, eating dinner or just bouncing on it while watching T.V…having one at home is more beneficial than you may think.
My favorite thing to use the exercise ball for is to strengthen my core. Having it at home is very useful since I’m forced to contract my abdominals more to maintain my balance while on the ball.

Of course, that’s just the beginning. You can find hundreds of ways to strengthen your core – and other muscle groups – online. The versatility of the exercise ball and its simplicity of use makes it one of my top tools for how to get fit at home fast.
- Price: $
- Quality: 4.5/5 stars, 1,411 Amazon reviews
- Pros: anti-burst tested, includes hand pump, extra air plug valve remover tool and 1 year unlimited warranty
The last tool I would recommend investing in to get fit at home fast is a medicine ball. These balls are not the same as exercise balls. They’re much small and heavier, making them a great tool for both strengthening and cardio.
One reason in particular I like medicine balls is because they’re easy to store. Simply roll it under the bed once you’re done exercising and voila! Having workout equipment at home doesn’t have to clutter up your space. Sometimes I believe people have been fooled into thinking that getting fit at home requires you to fill your entire space with cardio machines and bulky, expensive equipment.
That’s not true at all!
Having small, inexpensive items at home works just as well. Not only that, they’re much easier to store and are more versatile – meaning you can do a wider variety of exercises with them.
- Price: $29.90
- Quality: 4.7/5 stars, 716 Amazon reviews
- Pros: strong, durable quality, comes in different sizes

How to Get Fit at Home Fast – Conclusion
No matter how busy your life is, having a few small workout tools at home is HUGELY beneficial to your health. It may not seem like that big of a deal at first, however the little things you do for your body are often times the most effective.
Because it’s through these little things (maybe just 5 minutes of using the dumbbell) that you’re able to build positive momentum. The more positive momentum you have, the more likely you’ll be able to maintain a steadily-improving level of fitness for the years to come.
If that doesn’t sound exciting, then I don’t know what does!
